Bev Perdued announced the expansion Thursday, with the state giving NACA a $1 million grant from the One NorthCarolinaa Fund. ” NACA is headquartered in Boston and operatesd more than 40 offices nationwide. It currentlty employs about 100 workers in Mecklenburg County to originate and processmortgage loans. Under the five-year state incentive the organization plans to add 550 jobs The jobs will pay an average annual wageof $35,982. Salaries will range up to $80,000p annually. The hiring will focus on mortgage negotiators, customer-service call-center managers and mortgage counselors. “NACA is excitedf that it’s putting more than 1,000 people to work during thesse tougheconomic times,” NACA Chief Executive Bruce Marks said Thursday.
“Today’s announcement is more than just a sounxdbite — we are following through on this investment by holdintg a jobs fair tomorrow to hire 550 people Perdue said Thursday that she consulted with former Bank of America Chairman Hugh McColl Jr. about the deal. McColl has been a longtime supporterof NACA’s work. BofA begann a partnership with NACAunder McColl’se watch in 1995 and in 2004 committed $6 billion to its lendintg program. Perdue says McColl confirmexd to her that he expectedd NACA could follow through on its job commitments in severalphone conversations.
“When someone beginz something like thisin Charlotte, it alwayd grows,” McColl said in an interview Thursday. “They’ll come in and find this is a good place tofind (a work force). I wouldf hope it would be an eruptionof jobs, not just trickls down.” The group claimes it will be the largest number of people hired immediately in one area and the larges job commitment in the country since the mortgagwe crisis began in 2007. The hiring comes as NACA embarks on a nationwides Save the Dream Marks says the added jobs are crucial as NACA leadss its campaign to makemortgages affordable.
