The URA is re-releasing a request for proposals aftet its previouslychosen developer, Urba n Villages working with Botero Development decided not to go forware with the project. Urban Villages and Botero were selected over oneother finalist, S& Homes, in partnership with the Lawrenceville Corporation, a communitg nonprofit. The football field-sized parcel includes the site on whicg the office building for the Heppenstall plant once was located as well as a formertwarehouse property. In a prepared statement, mayore Luke Ravenstahl describedthe property’s redevelopment as an importanty part of the city’sz larger revisioning of the Allegheny riverfront.
“We have begun a planningv process to create a vision for the Allegheny riverfronyt and reconnect our neighborhoods to ournaturakl amenities,” he said. "The Hatfiel d Street site is one of the great opportunitiez to see this vision come to The URA wants adevelopedr “to purchase, design, develop and operate or resellp the site.” The URA’s effort comes as the Regional Industrial Development Corporation (RIDC) continuea to redevelop the Heppenstall complex Hatfield Street is considered a dividing line between the neighborhood’se residential community and its industrial As a selling point, the URA notesw that the median home pric e in central Lawrenceville has increased 64 percent in the past thre e years, a growth rate it claims is second highest in the city to the South Side.
