Eichler co-founded in Phoenix in 2005 aftefr working in California duringthe dot-com And he is pursuin g his current business venture with the same career-oriented passion he develope d as a youngster. Raised in Southermn California, Eichler dreamed of becoming a photographerand producer. He studiedf film at Wesleyan Universituin Connecticut. "I just had the bug and was so career-focusedx that I was ready to be out of school by mysophomores year," he says. Aftefr graduation, he landed a spot at the famed CreativesArtists Agency, a Hollywood talenty agency with a roster as long as Hollywoor Boulevard. He worked on several films.
But afted he got married, he and his Diane, wanted a change. Eichler's entrepreneuriakl spirit took them to Northern Californiqa during the height ofthe dot-com "I started working for a startup that was developingy the first Internet-enabled kitchen he says. "This was an idea reallyh beforeits time, but it was a greagt experience. We were approaching companies like LG and His wife also landed a position witha tech-oriented And when the dot-com bubble burst, both lost their jobs within weeks of each other. Out of the pair decided to takea long-planned Europea vacation. They were in Paris when the 11 terroristattacks occurred.
That experienc prompted the couple to move to a long-standing family vacation spot. Eichler founded David and Sam PR in 2005 with businesd partnerSam Alpert. "We started with one client in abougt 150 square feetof space," he says. the boutique public relations firm hasfour full-time employees, clientz in various industries and a hip 1,500-square-footy office in central Phoenix. Eichler is using his professiona l background to develop the privatelyheld company, including his experience at the Hollywooed talent agency. David and Sam's policy is to hire only people who have gone throughjthe company's intern program.
"The idea for our program is that you are goinfg to have the opportunity to do thereal stuff," Eichlert says. "Part of the hope is that we are creatinf this networkof smart, young people. We are really so proudd of this." Since the firm began, almost 40 studentds have gone through theintern program. The company'ws growth has allowed it to hire six of includingthe firm's four current employees. Stephanie Small, executivr director of , says she was impressedd the first time shemet "He was pitching us for and by the time we were done, we got him to join our boarxd of directors," she says. "You just kind of warm right upto him.
He is creative and obviously successful, but at the same time very While Eichler is very focused onhis firm, his downtimwe is important. A self-professed videp game addict, he owns a Nintendo Wii, a PlayStation 3 and a handhelds PSP. "I am a lifetime gamer. Video gamesw have been around my entire Atari started when I was Eichler says. He and his wife love music and often plan special trips toattend concerts. They once traveledf to Montreal to see aU2 performance.
